A&P by John Updike tells a story of a young man named Sammy who works as a cash register and is observing and creeping on three teenage girls. These three teenage girls are wearing only their baby suits and arrive at Sammy’s job.Throughout the story, he observes every little detail of how their appearance. He even gives the girls nicknames;  Queenie, Plaid and Big tall Goony-Goony. He later judges them by their apperance assuming that he knows their personalities and their motivation. Sammy focuses in one girl who he named “Queenie” he concludes that shes the leader out of the three.

 As the story culminate the store manger Lengel goes toward Sammy’s register and tells the girls that what there wearing is inappropriate and are braking the store’s policy. When the argument between the store manger and Queenie ends, Sammy turns to Lengel and quit his job because he disagrees with what Lengel had told to the girls. In the end he goes towards the exit and searches the parking lot looking for the girls. He noticed that they have left, he later states that after that he now knows that life stood solid showing no emotion. 

One thing that caught my eyes was the entrance of the three teenage girls and how they attracted the attention of all the men in the store. Just because every girl goes through same thing and it shows the power that they have, knowing and full aware of the attention that they’re having they don't put their power in use. My favorite part of this story and that proves their power is when the Manger Lengel tries to shut them down by embarrassing them by saying that they’re aware of their inappropriate behavior and dress code and Quieenie simply replies saying “we are decent”, I take this as her trying to restore her power back by not looking embarrassed in front of the people in the store.
