Cathedral Reflection
After reading the first few pages of the “Cathedral”, I was kind of confused. There was nothing about a cathedral so I was just going with the flow. However, the short story got interesting at the end. Where the blind man asked for a paper and pen. He wanted to do something that was almost impossible. If you do think about it though, it was actually a smart idea by the blind man. He couldn’t see anything but he can feel. He can trace his finger on the drawing and have a sense of what is on the paper. I think by having the drawing on a paper, it will be more detailed seen that the narrator already didn’t know how to explain what the cathedral looks like. Although he said it was a simple building, in his drawing there was windows and other things which add more details to Robert’s understanding. Also what struck me was at the very end of the story where the narrator kept his eyes closed. He then started to realize what the blind guy saw. And he didn’t want to reopen his eyes. I don’t know why the author didn’t write about what the narrator saw but I am thinking it’s a deeper place where he can see more that what is visible to him.
