"The Tell-Tale Heart"

 Question 1. The narrator insists from the very beginning of the story that he is not insane. What characteristics does he say prove his sanity? What characteristics suggest his madness instead?

The narrator from “The Tell-Tale Heart” shows many characteristics to prove that he  is going insane. The first sentences he question himself saying “but will you say that I am mad” and he confess”The disease had sharpen my senses -not destroyed- not dulled them”trying to defend himself, and to me when I read disease was that he was going insane. Through out the whole story he kept explaining and confessing makes him look guilty and crazy. Another example of him looking insane was when he wrote” I think it was his eye ! Yes, it was this !) Again you’ll see him trying to defend himself and throughout this paragraph he describes the old man eye like if it was a separate person or item that was haunting him day and night, and the “Yes” make it worst because to me it sounds with excitement and the reason why he went insane.

In my opinion one prove that really made him look insane was when he couldn’t control what was real and his imagination. I say this because in the short stories “The ringing became more distinct.. I talked more freely to get rid of the feeling..but it continue and gained definitiveness” right here explain and you can see he went out of  reality he couldn't control his thoughts, The guilt was driving him insane. 

Question 2. The two controlling symbols in the story are they eye and the heart. What is their significance in the story? Why do you think the author makes them So prominent?

I feel that the eye and the heart are two different people in the story and the main character separates them by killing the evil eye . Just because in the beginning of the story in the second paragraph he describes the “Evil Eye” in a way that its a evil cruel person .And the heart describes the innocents of the old man. I say this because in the story the old man scared and knowing that he is going to die , so in order to feel comfort he lies to himself. Showing how Innocent he is and in the beginning the narrator describes how nice the old man is.
