I chose Walter Lee Younger for my reading response because while reading the play Walter seemed
the most relatable. Not that i really saw that much of myself in him, but i totally understand where
he's coming from. He is very headstrong like some people i know in real life, and that hasn't always
played out well for them. He is very stubborn and doesn't always see when he is in the wrong, which
is where a lot of the problems that befall him and his family come from. Specifically with trusting
Willy, everyone in his family was against it but he didn't consider their opinions because he was so
sure that he was right. It's sad because i don't see Walter as a greedy person, he is just someone who
wants his family to have a better life, and is willing to go through so much to help achieve that goal.
unfortunately he keeps making mistakes and setting the whole family back. Unfortunately because of
the type of society they live in, Walter doesn't believe that an African American family can prosper
without attempting some sort of scheme like the ones he's always thinking up. The play focuses
around Walter but i also feel like he is the antagonist towards the family because of all his screw ups.
